Mid Year Check In with Dr. Klipsch Mid Year Check In with Dr. Klipsch Show Transcript well hello Hampton families this is Dr K clips and I uh as we start a new year I thought I would just check in have as we're halfway through the year with a very brief check-in and kind of a state of the school where we are and uh also to share share some uh some data and the survey results from the capturing kids heart survey that was sent out that uh many of you completed so I wanted to show you some of those results as well um first off though I wanted to let you know of a few other updates here you may have seen on the north end of our building we have a a new updated Hampton School sign um and so again it just provides a good look for our school there on that North End we are keeping the uh the older sign that was up there and that's going to be Inc ated into an outdoor classroom space that uh that has been worked on a little bit here so that will be coming soon but we still have that signed to remember the the tradition that we have here in Hampton uh but just wanted to share that some other facility updates um Mr uh Tony our wonderful maintenance director is going to be working on uh repainting the walls with some new color and and uh to give those walls a good update as well um and then this summer we received a grant to have our new uh ceiling and lights done in the hallway as well where we had a lot of the tiles and the ceiling were kind of bowing and stained so um this time next year as we start the year off next year uh we'll have uh fresh up coat of paint on the walls uh new ceiling new lights and then that signage in addition to all the other great things going on so we're very excited about that but jumping to our capturing kids heart survey I want to explain what you're looking at here uh it's very exciting information um the the the column that says Baseline on the far right that is the average score from families of all cap capturing kids heart schools Across the Nation um uh except those are the average scores for the national showcase schools if you move to the left those columns to the left are the last 3 times we've taken this survey so you can see directly to the left of that Baseline is mid-year last year to the left of that is the end of the year last year and then on the far left is the most recent the ones that we just took into December any and those are scores out of 5 any score that is at or above the average for National showcase schools is shaded green and as you can see every 1 of them is green so um and we're just very excited to see that we reviewed this with our staff but you can see that it is our goal to help you to feel welcomed at your child's school and number 2 there uh shows 4.8 out of 5 um my school students School cares for my student number 5 there you can look down the list basically and see a great a lot of positive things number 13 my student likes going to school most days okay that's obviously the first step in any in any schools we want kids to want to be here um and in most cases on surveys on these surveys not all the times you're going to see all green but it just so happens that every Administration we've continued to uh or I guess your feedback is that we're hitting the mark on these areas so we'll continue to make sure that that's the case but we appreciate you taking the survey and at the end of the year there's another opportunity to take the end of your survey and again we'll continue to look at that as well so thank you for doing that and we'll continue to move forward uh to make sure that everyone feels welcome here another uh thing that I wanted to update everyone on is our map assessments map stands for measures of academic progress we take that in the fall in the winter and in the spring and for kindergarten to fifth grade we take reading and math and for sixth seventh and eighth grade they take reading language usage and math and so I just wanted to share and I uh very briefly here just 1 graph for each of those that kind of really tells a positive story so this is our reading graph and what you're going to see here is there's a horizontal line anything above that horizontal line means above average growth the horizontal line is perfectly at that 50th percentile per like right on the average anything above that is better than average compared to other schools that took the map and you see that small Green Dot there that has an S that stands for school that's our school average for growth so it's positive our school as a whole for kindergarten through 8th grade uh grew more than average in addition to that there's a vertical line you see down the middle that vertical line signifies average achievement just the raw achievement so any a mark That's right on that would be right at that 50th percentile for achievement you can see we're to the right of that which means higher than average achievement as well so the goal of this uh of this uh quadrant uh is to be in that top right quadrant that means higher than average growth higher than average achievement and you can see with our reading as a school that we are in that quadrant and we're going to continue to move up into the right higher continue to keep growing keep having that high achievement but this is very positive so for language uses this is just 6 7th and eighth grade you can see it looks like a duplicate but it just so happens that again our school our 67 eighth graders are higher than average growth higher than average achievement and will continue to try to move up into the right and then for math again it looks it looks very much the same and and uh in that top right quadrant so we want to continue to move farther and farther up into the right um but again this is very positive and really the most important thing is growth so no matter where a student is whether they're at that achievement level or not we want them growing at an at higher than average to to to play catch-up and to exceed what we know they can do so that is just a few very brief pieces if you have questions about any of these uh charts uh if you have questions about your individual student and how they did um you could start by reaching out to your child's teacher uh or you can contact me here in the office and I'd be happy to help um but uh we are a continuing on focusing in on some positive goals again for the second semester and we can't do it without you so we appreciate you thank you for your communication thank you for supporting your kids at home helping to have a good routine as far as reading every night at home making sure they're getting their homework done and then communicating with your teacher so that we can work together to help your child be successful we're looking forward to another great semester thank you and have a wonderful day
