JOB DESCRIPTION


Position Title: Nurse

Reports to: Superintendent

FLSA Class: Exempt

SUMMARY

To provide purposeful health services to district students and staff and act as a health resource person.


DUTIES

  1. Conducts Vision and Hearing screenings and make referrals as needed.
  2. Provides professional nursing services as defined in The Illinois Nursing Act (225 ILCS 65).
  3. Supports Medical Provider orders for medication or modification in physical activity.
  4. Administers and monitors medication and treatment given in school (subject to local policy regarding the administration of medication at school).
  5. Acts as liaison between home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector.
  6. Participates in Student IEP meetings as requested by the Superintendent and teachers.
  7. Consults with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school health matters.
  8. Prepares, maintains, and submits up to date health records on all students as necessary. 
  9. Completes all State of Illinois Health reports by state mandated deadlines.
  10. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
  11. Assumes responsibility for identification and referral of students in need of medical care.
  12. Assumes authority,  for the care of a staff member or student who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
  13. Participates with administration and school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program.
  14. Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions at each building.
  15. Assists in health instruction, family education, and other health topics at each building.
  16. Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum.
  17. Administers and monitors medical treatment and/or medication given to students while attending school.
  18. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be a registered professional nurse with a current State of Illinois Professional Nurse’s license.
  2. Must meet any other certification requirements of the state.

SCHEDULING

The work hours for this position are from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.  The schedule is subject to change with district demands.

Position Title: Science/Social Studies Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal

SUMMARY

This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks with curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a classroom setting.

 

DUTIES

  1. Teacher shall be under the supervision of the Superintendent/Principal and shall cooperate with them in everything affecting the welfare and management of the school.
  2. Teaches District approved Science and Social Studies curriculum, primarily science, but potentially including Civics, STEM, and US History.
  3. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  4. Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  6. All school personnel shall be courteous to and considerate of school patrons and friends at all times.
  7. Teachers are expected at all times to help promote goodwill toward our school in their contacts with the public. 
  8. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  9. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules.
  10. Teachers should always maintain good discipline by being firm, fair, and friendly. 
  11. The Principal will be responsible for the assignment of teaching staff. Assignments will be made according to the school’s need and on as equitable a basis as possible. 
  12. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  13. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  14. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  15. Assists with the planning of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) as designated by administration.
  16. Participates in IEP meetings with district administration and other staff as determined by district administration.
  17. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  18. Remain available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences.
  19. Teachers witnessing accidents in the building or on the school grounds should report all details to the Principal. 
  20. Perform all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by Building Administrator or Superintendent.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Teaching certificate for the particular position as required by the State.
  2. Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Google Suite).
  3. Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  4. Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  5. Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner

Position Title: Instructional Aide/Paraprofessional

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt

Effective Date: August 7, 2024


SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting the teacher and/or administrators in achieving objectives by working with a class, small groups, individual students to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. This position also supports general supervision during lunch and recess.


DUTIES

  1. Discusses assigned duties with principal and assigned classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  2. Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations as needed.
  3. Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers/administrators, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  4. Tutors and assists children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  5. Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
  6. Distributes teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.
  7. Distributes tests and homework assignments, and collects them when they are completed.
  8. Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
  9. Grades homework and tests, and computes and records results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices as requested.
  10. Completes required reports in a timely manner.
  11. Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
  12. Works with students with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities as requested by administration.
  13. May be required to perform tasks that students are not able to do, i.e. taking notes, handling materials, holding books, etc.
  14. Supports students with academic, social, and emotional needs using trauma-informed practices.
  15. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  16. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  17. Assists the classroom teacher in other tasks necessary in maintaining a professional and positive classroom environment, and performs other teacher aide duties as may be assigned by the classroom teacher and/or administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must hold a valid IL paraprofessional license.
  2. HS Diploma or GED.
  3. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, and the general public.
  4. Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
  5. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
  6. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

SCHEDULING 

The work hours for this position are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mon-Thurs and 8:45-2:30 on Friday. The schedule is subject to change with district demands.
